Are you ready to make an impact, shake things up, tell your wonderful story as you are on purpose in this world? Let's work through how to do that together. With a 5 day challenge.

Welcome to Day #1 of the public speaking challenge. Throughout this challenge, we’re going to be using Abraham Lincoln’s famous Gettysburg Address as our practice speech. You can find it here.

If you have your own speech you’d like to use, you can do that as well.

Today we’re going to talk about confronting your fears and visualizing success.

Ready?

SUCCESS FACTOR:

Let’s talk about fear for a second. Almost EVERYONE gets nervous when speaking in front of an audience. Heck we spend more time on picking the right font when we just write something,

And frankly, it can be pretty scary. You’re in front of others, trying to be powerful, authoritative, and insightful. It’s easy to be intimidated! Even if around friends you care about.

The first step is to directly confront your fears and visualize your success. Own your fears.

So ask yourself:

What am I afraid of?

You need to be very specific here. Are you afraid of:

  • Looking bad?

  • Making mistakes?

  • Not being good enough?

  • Freezing up?

Determine exactly what your fears are, then confront them head on. Don’t let them hide in the vague recesses of your mind. Bring them to the FRONT.

But that’s only part one.

Next, you need to VISUALIZE your success. Can you help someone? Can you possible change or save someone's life?

Visualize:

  • The sense of accomplishment you’ll feel.

  • The respect from others that comes just from getting up there.

  • The reward of spreading great thoughts and concepts.

  • The applause you’ll receive.

  • The career boost as others see your skills and knowledge.

Before EVERY public speaking event, take time to visualize your success. Most people only think about their fears. Not you.

You’re going to confront your fears head on, set them aside, and then focus on your success.

    Homework time.... But Worthy!

    ACTION:

Take out a blank piece of paper or open a fresh computer document.

Create two sections: fears and success.

Under the fear section, write out what you’re afraid of when it comes to public speaking. Don’t be vague. Be as crystal clear and SPECIFIC as possible.

Then, under the success section, write down all the SUCCESSES you’ll achieve as a result of public speaking: the applause, the sense of accomplishment, the career boost, the respect of your peers, etc. Go wild!

Be specific here too. No vagueness allowed. When you’re writing out your successes, VISUALIZE them in your head too. FEEL them.

Okay, now it’s time for you to get busy. Write down those fears and successes and in the comments below, please share at least ONE of each of those things in the comments or at least with a person you trust. Come on, don’t be shy!

And stay tuned for tomorrow, because we’re going to be talking about the skill of varying your tone and speaking speed. You are a movie star in life with a tone and story.

See you tomorrow!

PS...You are selfish by not telling your story.....Because your story matters that much
